Ending 2011

This afternoon the wind is blowing 16mph from the SE, sun is shining, it's 51degrees, it's Saturday and I've been inside all day doing work for my job.  I started the last day of the year with my favorite cup of coffee in my favorite Spode Christmas latte mug. Take one latte mug, add 3 Tbs French Vanilla International Coffee, place under Keurig spout, add a K-cup (today's was Donut Shoppe) to the Keurig, push Keurig button for the 2nd to right size mug on digital screen, when done stir, add about 1/3 to 2/3 hot water from faucet, stir and WA LAH! Not too hot to drink. Try it, you can adjust French Vanilla IC and amount of tap water for taste. Tonight Mister and I will eat at the local cafe, attend church and then home to a relaxing evening. That wasn't always the case. When our children were home we hosted a New Year's Eve Party every year. Invited our friends and their children. Always a houseful. Always a fun time without alcohol!!! Now we go to bed early, still without alcohol, remembering all those late nights years ago!
Mister got a weather station from the kids for Christmas. Today he put up the tower out by the garden and has the monitor on the cabinet near the entrance to his office. He must have thought the pretties on this cabinet needed a techy look.  He is rather proud of his station; no more going outside to look in the rain guage or waiting on the weather report.  Another fun gift for him was the 1/16 scale Steiger Cougar PTA 280 that "Santa" brought him! "A replica of  his first 4 wheel drive tractor", he says. It made the gift I got him, a 1/64 scale Steiger, look like tiddlywinks! Oh well, Mister is happy!
Since I have the day off on Monday, my plan is to travel 30 miles to the big city of 40,000 and shop. I may use the gift cards I recieved for Christmas or just look. I love to browse in the stores, which Mister does not understand.
Happy New Year!

It's beginning to look alot like Christmas.....

Thanksgiving was full of family and food. Spent Thanksgiving day with my parents, father-in-law, 6 siblings, 2 of our 4 children and nieces and nephews. Took 2 pumpkin pies, an overnight lettuce salad and lettuce salad with dressings. With 6 of 7 siblings (I make 8) attending we had plenty to eat. After the feast there was a wedding shower for my nephew and his fiance, getting married Dec. 23. Loved visiting with everyone. Held grandchildren #3 and 7. Talked about Black Friday shopping plans and past experiences.  I did not do Black Friday this year. I stayed home and relaxed. Mister and I went shopping today. It was not crowed. Went to Kohls, Farm & Home Supply, Joann Fabrics and ate lunch at Wendy's. Mister doesn't tolerate fabric stores so he went to other stores. This evening I sorted through gifts purchased and readied them for wrapping.

The first half of June is....

Wow, it's been six months and I'm just now checking my blog. Hope I can write more often in the summer months.
The corn and soybeans are looking beautiful around us. Even with all the rain we received in the past 2 weeks, Mister won't have to replant.
I'm helping with crafts at Vacation Bible School this week in the evenings. I haven't helped with VBS for about 11 or 12 years, when I started working full time. We always had it in the mornings and this year we are trying an evening schedule.  The change in time enabled me to help again. I told Mister that this week was going to be a "hectic" week for me. In the years between 1984 to 2000 I was either a teacher or the craft leader and our 4 children were young, but I don't remember it being "hectic" then.
Today is the birthday of two of my sisters, they are 12 years apart. They don't live near me so I sent them cards. Last weekend our daughter-in-law's mother gave us 2 quarts of strawberries from her patch. They were delicious!
Summer baseball and softball is going strong. I've attended baseball games of our oldest grandchild #1, he'll be in first grade. His sisters, grandchild #2 and #4, look forward to grandma because I have money for the concession stand, anywhere from 10 - 50 cents. They can get a freeze pop for 10 cents at some ball diamonds!! Grandchild #1 gets his money after the game.
My lunch hour is almost over, so I'll close this post.
Have a safe summer!

This is a first for me

I'm joining the world of blogging. I really don't know what to expect in this blog thing, so here goes.
I'd like to share with you how I experience life on the prairie. "Prairie" is my word for the "country", "rural life" or "out in the county".  My use of "prairie" or other future words may give you clues to my whereabouts or else frustrate you.  So when I refer to a flavored carbonated beverage as "soda" and you say "pop", please humor me.
This evening I was welcomed home by my hubby, dog, garage cat 1 and garage cat 2. Garage cats 1&2 are cautious about going outside when I pull into the garage. They are afraid of outside wild cat 1 and outside wild cat 2. Of course when garage cats choose to go outside it's usually when the gagrage door is coming down, making the door go back up.  Or worse, after I've backed out of the garage the cats play "lets get the human flustered" game. They wait until the garage door is a foot from the floor and dash out making the door lift. Then they wait until the garage door is almost closed again and dash back into the garage. I do not like their game. Oh, wait...the absolute worse is when outside wild cats 1&2 dart into the garage when the door is closing and then I have to get out of the car, toss them out, get back into the car, hit the remote, and discovering they did it again. My hubby and dog have the same schedule. From the middle to end of March to the end of November My Hubby and dog are outside. In December, January and February they come inside. You guessed it, my hubby farms. Our lives revolve around Spring fieldwork & planting, summer fieldwork and harvest & fall fieldwork.
I'm done for this evening. I hope to share more with you soon.
